Living Donor

Become a Living Kidney Donor

Every day, thousands of people in the United States wait for the call that could change their lives forever: the chance at a kidney transplant. The waitlist can stretch for five years or more, and for many, time simply runs out.

I know this reality personally. My name is Donivon Duffy, and I am two years into a five-year waitlist for a kidney transplant at both UAB and UMMC. My journey with stage four kidney failure has been one of strength, struggle, and hope. It’s why I founded The Manors Foundation - to raise awareness, spread education, and inspire compassion for patients like me who face these challenges every day.

But this page isn’t just about me, it’s about the countless people who are holding on to life while waiting for a miracle. You have the power to be that miracle.

Why Living Donation Matters

While deceased donor kidneys save lives, the reality is that the demand far outpaces availability. A living donor kidney offers:

  • Shorter wait times – Patients can receive a transplant sooner.
  • Better outcomes – Living donor kidneys typically last longer and function better.
  • The gift of time – For many patients, a living donor means years—sometimes decades—of restored health and renewed life.

You Don’t Have to Be a Match for Me

Even if you aren’t a direct match for me, you can still change someone’s life through paired exchange programs, where your donation helps create a chain of transplants that reach multiple patients in need.

Check out the trailer for Clear The List - a documentary that follows the lives of multiple transplant recipients/donors after a historic seven-way-exchange kidney transplant at University of Mississippi Medical Center.

How to Take the Next Step

Becoming a living donor is a deeply personal decision, but it begins with learning. Most transplant centers offer a confidential screening process to determine if you’re eligible. There’s no obligation to move forward until you are completely ready.
